Every year one member is lucky enough to win a $500 endowment award... but luck isn't enough. Each applicant has to convince the committee that the money will be best used by their business to expand or enhance their business' goals.

Linda Fake, Allied Member ASID - Uniquely Yours
Artistic Expressions - Jamie Zalepeski

Since 1987, Linda Fake has worked in both the residential & commercial design fields throughout Central New York. In 2004, after taking some time off to be the “stay-at-home” mom, she reentered the field of interior design, deciding to start her own firm, Uniquely Yours.

With all of the changes in the design field, Linda felt it was necessary to add to her skill set and set some professional educational goals. She knew that the future of her industry will be focused on two things: sustainability and helping an aging Baby Boomer population of 79 million live & work in comfort. To that end, Linda became a LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) accredited professional in March of 2009. She is the only interior designer with this distinction from Herkimer County and one of fewer than 7,000 worldwide. At the end of October 2009, Linda will be completing her class work to become a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) from the National Association of Home Builders. The endowment award from the MVBWN provided financial assistance in achieving these goals.

Linda commented, “Uniquely Yours was created to be a ‘design democracy’. Good design should be affordable to everyone, no matter where they live and at every price point. This endowment allows me to offer my clients in the Mohawk Valley & beyond a wealth of knowledge previously only available in larger markets. Thank you for believing in my vision.”

Linda is currently serving as corresponding secretary for the MVBWN. Her office is located at 6282 State Route 167, Dolgeville, New York where she resides with her husband and two children.

There were 12 business plans presented for consideration that were evaluated and judged by the WBC’s Bank Partners.  Jamie Zalepeski of Artistic Expressions’ Business Plan was selected out of the 12 submitted as outstanding.

Jamie participated in the WBC’s Small Business Training Program and attended 100% of the classes. Her business was established in 1995 and until taking the WBC Small Training Program she did not have a written Business Plan. Upon completing the program, she now has a full professional Business Plan.  Jamie is also eager to join the Mohawk Valley Business Women’s Network and she will become an active and productive member.
